This project seeks to identify for case study purposes sawmills in West Virginia and adjacent states using cogeneration to produce electricity and thermal energy for operating a dry kiln, to estimate relevant cost/return information for the actual cases and for eight hypothetical cases representing four sawmill size classes, to determine costs of purchasing and operating air pollution control devices at sawmills using these energy techniques, and to develop a model for evaluating the profitability of investments in mill-residue fueled cogeneration facilities with dry kiln capacity. 1 ref.
