Fatigue Design Procedure of Marine Structural Details

The aim of this work has been to synthesize the various steps that must be performed within a rationally based fatigue design of marine structural details. First the applicable life estimating procedures of test specimen are reviewed, with special attention to welds, multiaxial stress-states and damage accumulation under random loads. Then application of these data in the practical design is illustrated by a parametric study of the stress concentration of reinforced holes. The predicted lives are then verified against fatigue tests of the actual detail. Finally the load distribution is discussed and a method for determining the local loads (that are acting on the details) is presented. (ERA citation 11:056853)
