The effect of carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide concentration and of heat treatment on the sulphur dioxide absorption capacity was analyzed for samples (1-2 mm particles) of Ignaberga limestone. Samples, prepared by calcination in various carbon dioxide concentrations at 900 deg C for 16 hours, were exposed to sulphur dioxide at 850 deg C. Under these conditions, no effect of carbon dioxide concentration on the sorbent utilization was observed. Samples prepared by calcination in various carbon dioxide concentrations at 900 deg C were directly exposed to sulfur dioxide at 850 deg C. These samples showed a slightly improved sorbent utilization at higher carbon dioxide concentrations (i.e. at low calcination rates). In addition, samples of the limestone calcined in a tube furnace under 15 percent CO/sub 2/ in N/sub 2/ at 850 deg C were exposed to various SO2 concentrations. The results showed a somewhat greater sulphur dioxide absorption capacity at higher SO2 concentrations. (ERA citation 13:026683)
