This report highlights the symposium, particularly emphasizing the Japanese work in the high temperature oxide superconductors, and assesses the research and development efforts on superconducting materials at two actively involved companies, Nippon Steel Corp. and Furukawa Electric Co. This also includes the traveler's personal impression, which was gained through his discussion with a number of his Japanese acquaintances, of the direction of their effort on development and applications of superconducting materials.
