NASA has funded the DOE for FY90 to perform a conceptual design study of a low power Dynamic Isotope Power System (DIPS). The objective of this study is to develop a conceptual design of a low power DIPS (LPD) system at 500 to 1000 watts which can be used as the power source for a Mariner Mark II spacecraft for upcoming space exploration and science missions. This document describes the power system requirements for a low power DIPS for these unmanned interplanetary space exploration missions using the Mariner Mark II spacecraft. The reference mission used to establish these requirements is the Cassini orbiter mission to Saturn. Requirements specific to two other missions (Outer Planets Orbiter Probe (OPO/P) and Comet Nucleus Sample Return (CNSR)) are also included in the summary tables.
