(sup 14)C is a waste product that has been and may continue to be disposed and/or released into our environment. Subsurface land disposal has been considered as a means of control of nuclear waste and disposal of contaminant migration in the environment. Semiarid environments are preferred for subsurface disposal of solid and liquid wastes. However, such disposal of (sub 14)C may potentially introduce it into the subsurface and groundwater environmental pathways. A limited amount of site-specific data have been published for (sub 14)C transport through the subsurface and groundwater pathways. The experiments conducted in this study perform two functions: (1) they provide a specific impetus for further experimental work and (2) they give credibility to the estimated values used in environmental dose modeling. 11 refs., 1 fig., 1 tab.
