Heat insulated tube system for dairying environment

The task was to find a way to insulate tubes that are used in dairying environment. Since the hygienic demands are high the insulation is not allowed to absorb liquids or generate dust. When all criteria were specified, as demands and requirements, the search began for usable insulation materials and application methods. The materials and the application methods were combined to give a lot of different drafts that would fulfil the demands for the insulation. After the preliminary cut outs the remaining drafts have been carefully examined and evaluated. Two drafts were worth further development. They were a massive elastomeric and a double tube with enclosed air. In order to find the final solution some effect and temperature calculations for these drafts were made. To complete and verify our calculations six tests were made. The tests were: * uninsulated tube, * insulated tube with round outer cover, and * insulated tube with quadrangular outer cover. Each case was tested in both vertical and horizontal position. The test result showed that the calculation model gives a very good approximation to the reality. One demand in the specification of the master thesis was that the increasing of the cost not is allowed to be larger than the increasing of the value, i e the total cost for the machine is not allowed to increase. This is probably not fulfilled. However, if the operational costs is included in the estimation, the total cost for the machine during its lifetime will decrease. (Numerous tables and diagrams).
