摘要

A fundamental question in stress research today is when adaptive processes stop being essential for life and become damaging to health. Why some individuals are more vulnerable to chronic stress than others is also an unresolved phenomenon. These were tow of the main issues discussed at the OHOLO Research Conference held on March 20-25, 1996 in Zich'ron Yakov, Israel. The book offers a comprehensive overview of neural, endocrine and immunological responses to stress. We describe how these responses are generated and subsequently feedback and modulate brain function. The book presents an interesting mix of basic research papers and in-depth review papers. It combines experimental approaches in stress research from various disciplines ranging from clinical studies and behaviour to electrophysiology and molecular biology.
