The Army requires a quantity of METHYL-14C gd for metabolism/fate studies. This report summarizes a study to determine the maximum attainable specific activity of METHYL-14C dimethyl methyiphosphonate (DMMP) in 100-200 mCi quantities. The original proposal addressed two phases of work with Phase I to determine the maximum attamabie specific activity of METHYL-14C dmmp in 100-200 mCi quantities and Phase II to synthesize 0.5 g of METHYL-14C dmmp with the maximum attainable specific activity determined in Phase I. The synthesis of the DMMP methyl-14C was verified by ViTrax Radiosynthesis Laboratory. Based on the experimental results, ViTrax concluded that the preparation of DMMP methyl-14C is feasible at the 4-5 mmol scale. The expected specific activity will be in the range of 20-30 mCi/mmol. The radiochemical purity will be in excess of 97%. The report from ViTrax is Attachment I of this report. In addition to verification of the synthesis process for DMMP methyl-14C, ViTrax provided a $15,900 cost estimate for the synthesis of 100-150 mCi of the material with a specific activity of 20-30 mCi/mmol.
