摘要

This study was undertaken to determine the cold or heat stress imposed upon guided missile personnel wearing fuel handler's protective clothing during fueling and defueling operations at NIKE (AJAX) guided missile sites throughout continental United States. The field observations were obtained in three phases, each at a different season, permitting a study of stress conditions and microcolimates during cold, temperature and warm-humid climatic conditions. This report gives the results obtained and presents tentative conclusions. Windchill, large vertical temperature differences, and rapid changes in temperature near the ground, (encountered during the initial cold-weather phase), subjected climates unnecessarily high temperatures near the ground, (encountered during the initial cold-weather phase), subjected military personnel to considerable climatic stress. In temperatures climates unnecessarily high temperatures resulted at some sites where evetment orientation did not provide for maximum air circulation.
