摘要

The attempt to measure the absorption edges of single crystalsnof iodine as a function of temperature, using polarized light was primarily unsuccessful. Electronic noise which could-not be eliminated prevented the recording of any useful information. The substitution of a photomultiplier which had a spectral response in the visible spectrum for the one with spectral response in the infrared made possible the measurement of the absorption edge of single crystals of cadmium -sulfide. The cadmium sulfide measurements were in close agreement with published data.
