Studies of Low Dose Radiation Upon Complex Behavior Patterns

Presented in some detail are the rationale, general methods, and initial results of a research program for the study of low dose radiation upon complex behavior. Behavioral repertoires compounded from elementary units are established in primates and then assessed during a series of fractioned doses of X-radiation. Specific behavioral techniques are based upon avoidance of remote electric shock and point the way to refined and sensitive baselines for the study of radiation. A preliminary study indicates that transitory effects upon complex 'matching to sample' and total food intake may be obtained with single doses of X-ray on the order of 40 R. (Author)
