PALEOMAGNETIC STUDIES OF THE LAVAS OF AVACHA VOLCANO KAMCHATKA

The positions represented by the points [A, B, C, D, E] on the horizontal axis of this graph are distributed at equal intervals [of stratigraphic level], without regard to the times of formation of the respective parts of the cross-section. The regular law of variation here seen may, it appears, be put to immediate use in the case of Avacha Volcano, if allowance is made for the possible effects of other factors capable of changing the direction of residual magnetization of the rocks (local anomalies, tectonic displacements, secondary heatings, and so forth). Furthermore this law should be tested upon similar objects of volcanological study (for instance, the Gorely, Karym and Opala volcanoes). Should the relationship here found be confirmed, it is one that can be widely used for roughly dating the lavas of the Quaternary volcanoes in the eastern volcanic belt of Kamchatka.
