Propaganda Campaigns in Communist China.

摘要

Against the Chinese backgrounds of high illiteracy and low political consciousness among the people, mass campaigns become one of the Communist regime's most effective ways of indoctrinating the public. The author of the monograph tries to analyze the dynamics of two actual campaigns in Communist China to find their patterns of operation. They are the 'Learn From Lei Feng' Campaign of 1963 and 'Support Panama' Campaign of 1964. Before going into detailed descriptions of these campaigns, a review is given of the machinery of propaganda-especially the role of mass organizations in China today. In analyzing these two campaigns special attention is paid to the use of formal mass media (press, radio, film, etc.) and informal media like posters, traditional story-telling and stage-shows. The author finds that each campaign had a 'life cycle' and that each mobilized a very substantial number of the Chinese population. (Author)
