A method has been developed and tables have been constructed for determining the sample size, n, and the acceptance number, c, for single sampling plans for destructive testing, subject to the reauirement that the sum of the cost of inspection plus the net cost of the residues of rejected lots shall be a minimum. In order to accomplish this result, suitable approximations were used in the statistical treatment to replace some of the rather cumbersome expressions encountered in an exact formulation. Tables for the type of sampling inspection problems studied are for lot sizes up to 100,000 and for combinations of values for the true process average, and p sub t, the lot tolerance fraction defective, up to 0.10 and 0.40 respectively where the true process average
