Load Cells for Force Measurements on the High Speed Pilot Propulsion Test Sled.

Two load cells which were developed are described. Each has the capability of measuring three force components transmitted from a rocket sled to a payload being carried by the sled. The force components measured are the vertical and lateral forces,and the roll moment. Strain gages are used as the sensors. Results of the stress analyses made in the course of the design,the calibration tests and other load tests on the load cells are presented. Test results indicate that the load cells are accurate within about plus or minus 1% full scale for most loading conditions investigated. (Author)
