During examination of Phlebotomine sand flies from the Rio Anori Valley, antioquia Dep., Colombia, an undescribed, rather uncommon species related to Lutzomyia peruensis (shann.) was found usually in human biting collections. The male and female of L. cirrita n. sp. are described and illustrated in order to make the name available for a forthcoming paper dealing with population dynamics of sand flies in the Rio Anori area.
