Pre-Enlistment Decision Time as a Predictor of Military Effectiveness.

The correlation between impulsive enlistments (taking less than 24 hours to decide to enlist) and military, as well as civilian antisocial histories were examined for 90 men arrested in San Diego, California. The impulsive young men had high evidence of antisocial problems and drug intake, as well as subsequent drug difficulties. Problem scores were almost as high for the impulsive group as for men who are forced into the service as an alternative to jail. It is hoped that this information will be of use to recruiters and that time to Enlistment will be considered as an additional item for use in the odds for effectiveness scale. (Author)
