An Apparatus to Measure Dropwise Condensation Heat Transfer Coefficients of Steam.

An experimental apparatus was designed and constructed for the purpose of determining dropwise condensation heat transfer coefficients on condensing surfaces of different thickness. The equipment included a completely self contained condensing chamber which enclosed both the boiler and condensing surface. Variable temperature cooling water was utilized to control the heat flux. An intrinsic thermocouple was used in lieu of of the thin film resistance thermometer. Experimental data was taken fro a 0.51 mm thick stainless steel condensing surface. Results indicated the existence of a condensing curve similar in shape to the characteristic boiling curve represented by heat flux versus T sub vapor - T sub wall.
