摘要

The impact fracture toughness of Plastic Q has been determined by fracture mechanics over the temperature range from 20 deg C to -70 deg C. A major peak in fracture toughness at -10deg C has been found to correspond to a secondary loss transition in plasticized cellulose acetate. At -10deg C, the fracture toughness is directly proportional to the log of the maximum strain rate. There appears to be some evidence for a plane strain to plane stress transition with varying specimen thickness and temperature.
