摘要

Loss of function in the peripheral retina due to ischemia has been successfully monitored by retinal ganglion cell responses to external electrical stimulation of the eye which evokes cortical responses detectable by scalp electrodes. The retinal ischemia has been produced by increased intraocular pressure. Cessation of both the retinal ganglion cell impulses and cortical evoked potentials is observed when the retinal blood flow is halted, although the choroidal blood flow is continued as shown by persistence of the electroretinogram (ERG) a-wave and the disappearance of all other ERG components.
