Integration of Laboratory and Field Research in the Control of Lymphatic Filariasis

A review is presented on the integration of laboratory and field research in the control of lymphatic filariasis. Basic information obtained from both efforts will have application for control and eradication. Observations from the field can be experimentally scrutinized and evaluated, and laboratory findings transposed to the field for implementation. Field observations on vectors, zoonotic aspects, demography and clinical disease can be examined in the laboratory, and laboratory results on chemotherapy, immunology, molecular biology, in vitro culture, and vector biological control, can be further evaluated in the field.
