Paleoenvironmental Investigations at Seed Cave (Windust Cave H-45FR46), Franklin County, Washington

Investigations were conducted at Seed Cave to recover paleoenvironmental data being destroyed by relic collectors, Excavations exposed a profile over 5.5m in depth. Radiocarbon and stratigraphic evidence, combined with floral and faunal remains, indicates changes in local environment during the last 9000 years: 9000-6400 B.P. relatively cooler and moister; 6400-4100 B.P. considerably drier; 4100-3500 B.P. relatively moister conditions based on faunal and sediment data while the pollen spectra indicates conditions more arid than at present. Data for the last 3500 years indicate no substantial environmental changes around Seed Cave. (author)
