Tests and Measurements for Long-Haul Fiber and Cable Development.

摘要

Fiber optic link technology is being incorporated in exploratory and advanced development programs for tele-robots, undersea vehicles, tethered missiles, undersea surveillance, ship-to-shore communications, and diver communications. Data links for these systems require fibers and cables that meet system specifications while operating in harsh military environments. Development of these fibers and cables necessitates investigations into the impact of military environments on performance. To meet this need, test standards and procedures have been adapted and repeatability and reliability issues have been addressed. This report focuses on the tests, critical parameters, and equipment that have been developed to support the development of fibers and cables.
