摘要

Hyalomma impeltatum Schulze & Schlottke is a species of North, East, and West Africa as well as the Near East. Description, distribution, and hosts were reported by Hoogstraal. The immature stages of this three-host tick are found on rodents, hares, birds, and man. Adult ticks do not show a marked host preference and have been reported from a wide variety of wild or domestic animals as well as humans. Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) virus, a tick-borne agent that causes human disease often associated with Hyalomma species ticks, has been isolated from H. impeltatum ticks in Nigeria, Senegal, Ethiopia, and Mauritania. However, the role of H. impeltatum and many other potential vector species in CCHF virus ecology remains to be determined. Wanowrie virus also has been isolated from H. impeltatum removed from camels in Egypt. Our report describes aspects of the laboratory biology and developmental cycle of H. impeltatum, which will facilitate future vector competence studies of the potentially medically important tick species. Keywords: Ticks, Tickborne diseases, Reprints, Arachnida, Hyalomma impeltatum, Laboratory biology, Medicine, Medical research. (JG)
