The Longitudinal Stability of the ZP2N-1 Airship

A series of steady flight tests were made to determine the static longitudinal stability parameters of a U. S. Navy ZP2N-1 airship, and the results were compared with those computed from other considerations. It was found that the steady state flight test values agreed with the computed values. The major differences encountered were due to basic inaccuracies in the test procedure. It was found that the airship was slightly unstable at low angles of attack. The stability at high angles of attack is attributed to the weight buoyancy force.
