FELINE inflammatory polyps are nonneo-plastic masses that arise from the mucosa of the nasopharynx, auditory tube, or middle ear, all of which are continuous. Most polyps develop within the tympanic cavity or in the auditory tube close to its junctionwith the tympanic cavity. Synonyms include naso-pharyngeal polyps, pharyngeal polyps, and middle ear polyps. Feline inflammatory polyps are most common in young cats but also occur in middle-aged and old cats. Clinical signs are referable to the area(s) affected. Inflammatory polyps are the most common mass in the external ear canal of cats.
