Shell signs Ukraine shale gas deal

Shell has signed a 50-year productionsharing agreement (PSA) to explore and potentially develop the Yuzovskaya shale gas structure in eastern Ukraine. Kiev estimates that Yuzovskaya holds over 4 trillion m3 of conventional and unconventional gas resources. Shell plans to acquire seismic data and drill 15 wells during an initial five-year exploration period. The firm has pledged to invest at least 1.6bn hryvnia ($200mn) during the exploration phase and a minimum of HRN30bn on development if the project is deemed commercially viable.
