The U.S. pecan harvest is gradually gaming momentum with good demand and prices for excellent quality pecans, Excellent quality pecans are bringing about 1.50 dollar-2 dollar per pound depending on the variety, quality, etc. It appears that the marketmay hold beyond the early season specialty market window (i.e., gift packs, fund raisers, etc.) as the initial production forecast for 2004 is down significantly (see Fig. 1) and may decrease even further as more accurate loss estimates are made as a result of the series of hurricanes in the Southeast.
