How Sustainable Are We?

Sustainability has become a hot topic. In June, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, during which world lenders, along with thousands of participants from governments, the private sector, NGOs and other groups, came together to shape how the world can reduce poverty, advance social equity and ensure environmental protection on an ever more crowded planet. It resulted in commitments for more than $513 billion for sustainable development in the areas of energy, transport, green economy, disaster reduction, desertification, water, agriculture, and forests.
