CHEMICALS maker BASF is targeting annual sales of ?100 million (about Rs 820 crore) from innovative solutions for affordable mass housing, food fortification, solar and wind energy and water purification. Prasad Chandran, Chairman and Managing Director, BASF, said the company is in the process of tweaking its existing range of products and is undertaking research with product developers. Giving an example, he said, BASF has developed a chemical which retains the hardness of a detergent bar even after it is used in water several times. Similarly, the Vitamin A it manufactures, after being processed with other micronutrients, forms part of state-run fortification programs that address malnutrition (e.g. fortified dal, oil and flour).
