For the third time in eight years, Stanford University has been named the nation's top green business school, according to the Aspen Institutes 2011-12 Beyond Grey Pinstripes survey. Every two years the Colorado-based Aspen Institute ranks business schools on how effectively they weave social, environmental, and ethics content into their curriculum, examining everything from schools' extracurricular activities to the number of course offerings on the topic. Palo Alto, CA-based Stanford topped Aspensbiennial list in 2005 and 2007, then placed fourth in 2009. According to Aspen Institute Business and Society Program Executive Director Judith Samuel-son, Stanford reclaimed the top spot because of its large number of courses with social and environmental content, as well as classes on the role mainstream business can play in improving society. The school has also done a good job creating an environment that allows faculty to explore these topics in their research, Samuelson says.
