To test elevators of the future, German conglomerate ThyssenKrupp built a 761-foot-tall concrete tower in the town of Rottweil, Germany. The tower's interior contains 12 elevator shafts. Three of those shafts are set to test a new system called Multi. The system uses what ThyssenKrupp calls "magnetic levitation technology" to propel cabins through elevator shafts as fast as 60 feet per second and without the use of conventional cables or ropes.
