Government Receipts and Expenditures for Third Quarter of 2008

NET GOVERNMENT saving, the difference between current receipts and current expenditures of the federal government and state and local governments, was -USD645.0 billion in the third quarter of 2008, increasing USD71.4 billion from -USD716.4 billion in the second quarter of 2008. Net federal government saving was -USD543.2 billion in the third quarter, increasing USD106.4 billion from -USD649.6 billion in the second quarter (see page 12). Current receipts turned up, and current expenditures decelerated.
