Annual Industry Accounts: Advance Statistics on GDP by Industry for 2008

DOWNTURNS in durable-goods and nondurable-goods manufacturing, retail trade, and finance and insurance were the leading contributors to the slowdown in U.S. economic growth in 2008, according to advance statistics on gross domestic product (GDP) by industry. Real GDP grew 1.1 percent in 2008 after increasing 2.0 percent in 2007. Nearly two-thirds of private industries contributed to the slowdown in 2008.
