摘要

Legend has it that Mogul Emperor and the creator of Taj Mahal, Shah Jahan, was so fond of the traditional Indian perfume, rose attar, that he reserved its use for his royalty. The complexity of making 10g of this distilled scent from 40kg of pink rose petals made it so exclusive that all his royal letters were laced with it to give them a mark (smell) of authenticity.Today, there are no ruling kings and emperors in India but plenty of rich people still demanding rose attar that costs US25 for 2.5ml. Danny Ventura, international training operations manager at Paris-based Beaute Prestige International acknowledged at a recent cosmetics industry seminar organised in Delhi that "Indian sare mostly drawn to spicy fragrances".
