Fork lift trucks perform a very tough and demanding job and, like all powerful, heavy machinery, they must be properly maintained to be safe and legal to use. Even in the hands of an experienced operator, a faulty truck can be fatal. Most sensible people wouldn't drive to work in a car with no MOT and no idea when it was last serviced, wondering if it'll start or even reach its destination. And that's just a simple trip to work.
