The two cases described by Sheth and Abram serve as a nice reminder of the overlap between generalized epilepsies (absence in this case) and partial or localization-related epilepsies. Although there are no detailed epidemiological studies on what percentage of patients with generalized epilepsies also have focal features with regard to their seizure semiologies and inter- or intraictal EEG findings, I believe it to be fairly common, particularly if investigated in detail. Two non-American (Austrian and Japanese) studies have shown this phenomenon well.
