Syngenta has filed a civil suit in Federal District Court in Delaware, alleging that Monsanto made false and misleading claims about its own Roundup herbicide and Syngenta's Touchdown herbicides. The claims against Monsanto include trademark infringement and misuse, product disparagement and trade libel. "Monsanto is deliberately attempting to create confusion in the marketplace between Syngenta's Touchdown 5 herbicide and Touchdown herbicide with IQ Technology," said Vince Alventosa, vice presidentand general counsel for Syngenta Crop Protection in a statement. "Our suit is designed to prevent such misleading advertising claims and to set the record straight."
