Sims Group Ltd. (North Sydney, Australia) and Hugo Neu Corp. (New York City) are merging their metal recycling operations. The new company, called Sims Newco, will become "the leading global metal recycler and the world's largest metal recycler" by market capitalization, says Sims Group. The combined company will have 120 locations worldwide, with an estimated sales volume in excess of nine million mt of recycled metal and sales revenue above 4 billion dollars (Australian), based on 2004 financial information. Exports accounted for roughly 65 percent of total sales that year, Sims adds.
