India is the number one exporter of cephalopods to Europe, the third largest supplier of shrimp to Japan and the USA, and ranks i6th in terms of world seafood exports, so how much further can it climb? Indian seafood exports reached an all time high last year of 1.5 dollar billion, constituting 2.4% of world export trade and 2.15% of domestic exports, but the country still has much to do before it reaches its full potential. This was the tough message G Mohan Kumar, chairman of India's Marine Product Export Development Authority (MPEDA), gave to delegates at the recent India International Seafood Show in Kolkata.
