Ranking eleventh worldwide in reserves of oil,sixth in natural gas,and first in coal,the United States of America is the also the world's largest energy producer,consumer,and net importer.As at January 1,2005,the United States had 21.9 billion barrels of proved oil reserves - the eleventh highest in the world.More than 80 percent of these reserves are concentrated in four states:Texas 22%,Louisiana 22%,Alaska 20%,and California 18% (December 31,2003 figures).US proven oil reserves have declined some 17% since 1990,with the largest single-year decline (1.6 billion barrels) occurring in 1991.
