WASHINGTON-A package of legislation its sponsors say will improve the health and safety of U.S.miners was introduced June 19.Reps.George Miller,D-CA,and Nick Rahall,D-WV,along with Sen.Edward Kennedy,D-MA,said H.R.2768 and 2769 would improve mine emergency response plans;strengthen the ability of the Mine Safety and Health Administration to enforce health and safety regulations;improve rescue and accident investigation practices;and update the 35-year-old standard for black lung disease.
