Cereal farmers will soon have more choices of enhanced pesticides from agrochemical companies and more disease-resistant varieties from plant breeders to aid them in adapting with the sharp grain price decline. Dow AgroSciences UK, which has just introduced a range of herbicides derived on its novel arylex molecule (halauxifen-methyl) including Pixxaro (halauxifen-methyl plus fluroxypyr), will release another novel insecticide in 2017 and a novel fungicide Inatreq ("a product obtained from naturally occurring material") in 2019. Bayer Crop Science UK has displayed a wide range of novel products, with an emphasis on Hamlet (mesosulfuron plus iodosulfuron plus diflufenican), an upgraded Atlantis-type blackgrass herbicide for autumn 2016, and Ascra, a twin-SDHI wheat fungicide for spring 2017. Hamlet, can be applied until end-February, is best to be used when the plant is at the 1—3 leaf phase.
