Several weeks after the destruction at the World Trade Center in New York on Sept.11,OSHA's Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health met in Washington.Included on the panel's agenda was an update on the agency's activities at ground zero.What was clear from presentations of two OSHA officials was that in the critical hours following Sept.11,many emergency responders had worked without the benefit of personal protective equipment - particularly respirators.This exposed them to smoke,fire,caustic dust and airborne toxic pollutants.
