(v) Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty

Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is a treatment option when only one compartment of the knee is affected with arthritis. There has been increasing enthusiasm in unicompartmental knee arthroplasty, with improved understanding of surgical principles, newer techniques for improving surgical precision including the use of smaller incisions, and the introduction of newer designs. Past experiences from several centres have been paramount in the education of surgeons with regards to patient selection, technical considerations, and importantly avoiding common pitfalls can lead to early failure of the components.
