The Lloydminster area's thermal heavy oil sector has entered a phase of impressively rapid expansion. Husky Energy, which accounts for over three-quarters of thermal heavy oil production in the region and is now producing 85,000 bbls/d, including its Tucker project near Cold Lake, expects its thermal heavy oil output to exceed 100,000 bbls/d sometime in the second half of 2016.
