Anyone who lives or works in Alberta can probably recite the fact that the province has the second-largest proven oil reserves in the world, second only to Saudi Arabia. You can thank Murray Smith, Alberta's energy minister under former premier Ralph Klein, for bringing international recognition to that fact and the role the oilsands play in the province.
