Companies Agree to Pay for Louisiana Spills

Meridian Resources & Exploration LLC and Louisiana Onshore Properties LLC have agreed to pay a US 504,000 civil penalty to resolve allegations of violations of the US Clean Water Act. The violations are related to five unauthorized discharges of crude oil that occurred at the Weeks Island facility in Iberia Parish, Louisiana (USA) between November 2005 and November 2006. The agreement requires the companies to enhance pipeline monitoring and the oil spill prevention program at the facility.
