Is where you work important? Certainly for some people there is little choice: you have to work where the work is or where the customers are. For most potters there is more flexibility since it isn't essential that the creative effort and the customers be in the same place. JIM MALONE, CUMBRIA Jim Malone is very clear that location is not just important, it is fundamental to the work that he produces. His pottery at Lessonhall in Cumbria gives him a working environment that feeds his creative needs: visually dramatic and far enough off the beaten track to allow for a quiet freedom from distraction. I visited Malone late last year to take pictures of him working and to talk to him about his work.
